UpKeep Design System
Impact
I created Foundations and Keep Web, the design system behind UpKeep's products: CMMS (maintenance), Safety and Learn. I led it using only part of my week, and I wrote the rules that let AI coding tools build screens straight from it.
The Problem
If you used UpKeep's products side by side, they didn't look like they came from the same company. Corners were rounded differently, colors didn't match, and sidebars and tables changed from one app to the next. Developers kept rebuilding the same pieces, and a separate coded library had slowly drifted away from the designs.
My Role
I led the system alongside my product work. I created Foundations (colors, type and icons) and Keep Web (49 components), got Safety and Learn to adopt them, and wrote the instructions AI coding agents follow when they build with the kit.
The Solution
One kit that every team shares. Foundations holds the design tokens, 941 of them, with light and dark mode. Keep Web holds the ready-made components. Every product, and every AI agent, builds from the same kit, so a button looks and works the same everywhere.
